Dismantling - large or heavy materials removed from the tree. The surrounding features and

are
protected by roping down pieces safely. i.e. overhanging property / greenhouses / roads
Felling - felling a tree safely in one piece. Generally done after dismantling the crown if safe and area allows
Pruning - general term for various techniques of removing branches
Formative pruning - taking control of the tree’s growth at an early stage
in its
development reducing the
need for
heavy pruning
in the future
Pollarding - this is an ancient tree management technique that starts early in a tree’s life. It involves pruning back branches to
the same point on a regular basis to form ‘pollard heads’ which store energy. maintaining / reducing a tree to a specified height
Shaping - a combination of pruning activities to give an overall better looking shape
Reducing - reduces a tree’s crown while still maintaining its natural shape. reducing the overall size of the trees canopy
Thinning - involves selectively removing some secondary branch growth to create a less dense crown, allowing
more
light for other plants or property. Can enhance a tree’s appearance by creating a more visually balanced crown
Lifting - removal of lower branches at base of tree, We often do this to trees near footpaths and roads
to allow the public and traffic to pass by safely, increases light and can enhance a tree’s appearance
Crown cleaning - the removal of dead wood, dying, diseased, weak, suppressed, split, broken, hanging
crossing and
rubbing branches and epicormic growth (small shoots emanating from the main trunk and stems) from
the crown to avoid
any
unacceptable
risk of personal injury or other damage
below (public / property)
Hedge Maintenance - Overgrown Hedge Shaping, Hedge Cutting, General Hedge Trimming, Hedgerow Maintenance
